Professor Dr. Tahir Saghir is a distinguished Pakistani cardiologist and one of the country's leading experts in clinical and interventional cardiology. Currently serving as the Executive Director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Karachi, he has played a pivotal role in advancing cardiovascular healthcare, clinical research, and interventional cardiology services in Pakistan. He also serves as the Secretary to the Governing Body of NICVD, contributing to the institute's strategic planning and governance.
Professor Dr. Tahir Saghir earned the prestigious Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) in Cardiology and further enhanced his professional credentials by becoming a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI) and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC). These internationally recognized fellowships reflect his commitment to excellence in cardiovascular medicine and patient care.
He joined NICVD in 2003, dedicating his career to the fields of Clinical and Interventional Cardiology. Over the years, he has established himself as a highly skilled interventionist and is among the two certified Interventional Cardiologists in Pakistan qualified to perform Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), an advanced minimally invasive procedure for treating severe aortic valve disease.
Professor Dr. Tahir Saghir has held several key leadership positions at NICVD, including Director of the Clinical Research Department and Associate Director of the Cardiac Catheterization and Intervention Department.
