Syed Mustafa Kamal - City Nazim of Karachi


Syed Mustafa Kamal is the elected City Nazim (Mayor) of Karachi. He is one of the well-known leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the third largest political party in Pakistan.

He was born in 1971 in Karachi, Sindh. He studied in Karachi till Intermediate and left for Malaysia where he completed an Associate Diploma in Business Executive studies. He earned his MBA in Marketing from the University of Wales (UK).

Before being elected as the Mayor of Karachi, he had served as the Minister for Information Technology with the Sindh government.

He has been associated with the MQM for more than a decade. He was working at Nine Zero, which is the main office of the party in Azizabad, Karachi.

He was nominated as the Mayor (City Nazim) by the Haq Parast panel, in local bodies election. He won by 1,493 votes against 800 votes obtained by his main rival, former city nazim Naimatullah Khan, fielded by the Tameer-i-Karachi Ittehad of the combined opposition parties.

The residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA),the most prestigious neighborhood of Karachi, have desired to pay taxes to the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) headed by Mustafa Kamal. They acknowledged the City government's efforts of carrying out relief operations in their area.

The city government had started work on 3 multistoried parking plazas two in Saddar Town and one in Clifton area and these would be unique and one of its kind projects in Pakistan.

The International Standardization Organization (ISO) Geneva has granted ISO certification 9001 to City Government Karachi for providing best services to its citizens

Mustafa Kamal was praised by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for his efforts to make Karachi a mega city and to carry out relief operations.

  1. I read some of your articles about some of the major political figures in Pakistan. It is very good information and history of influential people in Pakistan and in Karachi. Good effort.

    I would like to make one suggestion. Since this is published on the internet and many people around the world see it. please have some one with good command of English Language edit the articles before publishing it on the net.
